Chrysalis
2025 - ongoing
Project developed during Art Intensive Berlin residency by All About Curating (ideation phase). The realization phase of the installation will follow.
Chrysalis examines pregnancy as profound metamorphosis—a state where identity dissolves before reforming. Drawing from the biological process where caterpillars liquefy within cocoons, retaining only "imaginal discs" that become butterfly organs, I explore this liminal space of transformation.
The pregnant body emerges not merely as vessel, but as laboratory for radical change—simultaneously vulnerable and powerful. Through this work, I document the dissolution of boundaries between self and other, past and future, constraint and possibility, reclaiming pregnancy as a site where identity itself is unmade and remade.
The Installation - in progress:
The central kombucha leather sculpture, cast from my pregnant form, invites viewers to peer through its navel portal, witnessing imagery of dissolution activated by a winding mechanism that simultaneously plays a distorted lullaby. Surrounding this are drawings and notes displayed as scientific specimens—evidence of a body becoming both vessel and laboratory, where vulnerability and power coexist in creative tension.
