P.E.R.I.O.D. art music video
2022
P.E.R.I.O.D. is a feminist art music video that reclaims menstruation as a source of pride and power, while confronting the ongoing global issue of period poverty. Conceived as a not-for-profit passion project, it was brought to life by a team of primarily women-identifying creatives committed to challenging the stigma and economic injustices experienced by people who menstruate.
The choice of format — a music video — was deliberate: designed to meet audiences beyond traditional art spaces, it engages with the cultural arenas where conversations unfold today, such as social media and video platforms. The genre of rap, with its historical role in voicing resistance and demanding recognition, becomes a potent vessel for this message.
Set in a speculative, utopian world, the video imagines a society where menstruation is economically valued — where those who bleed are not marginalized, but celebrated. This reversal is not intended as a literal proposition, but rather as a provocative tool to question prevailing narratives. Through satire and reclamation, the video reframes objects and symbols typically associated with disgust — blood, pads, tampons — as emblems of dignity and empowerment.
